Spring weather is unpredictable and it’s important to know what to do should severe weather strike. The following information is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Tornado Watch: Tornadoes are possible. Be alert for approaching storms. Watch the sky and turn on a NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information.
Tornado Warning: A tornado has been signed or indicated by weather radar. Take shelter immediately.
What To Do If You Are In Your Home:
- Take shelter in the lowest level of the building or basement.

- If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room on the lowest level, such as a closet, interior hallway or bathroom. Stay away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls.
- Get under something sturdy such as a table and try to protect yourself from flying debris by using your arms or a helmet to protect your head and neck.
- In a high-rise building, go to a small interior room or hallway on the lowest floor possible.
- Wear sturdy shoes.
- Do not open windows.
